Each week, after I write the main post, a few days later, I send an accompanying prayer related to the topic. I am doing in this in part for me: I always am on the hunt for more written prayers. I use written prayers often in my work to pray for larger groups, but I also love written prayers for my personal piety. Sometimes it is nice when I do not have the words to use someone else’s.

The below prayer is in response to my latest post on Lenten practices.

God of the skies both gray and blue, God of the sun and God the clouds,

Winter feels oh-so-long. We get tastes of spring—light-filled days and warmer temperatures, happy pops of color from the tulips peeking up from the ground. But the dark nights still come too quickly, the grass is still brown, and everyone’s load still feels serious and heavy.

Yes, we will soon move our clocks forward, and the days will seem longer. The air starts to feel like spring: crisp, cool, light. Pollen will coat our windshields. Winter is almost over, just no…
